Online Associate's Degree In Homeland Security

The federal government established the Department of Homeland Security following the attack of the World Trade Center in 2001, creating a new agency charged with preventing domestic attacks on the United States by terrorists. Law enforcement and criminal justice majors at today's universities are enrolling in online associate's degree programs in Homeland Security to train for what is now the nation's largest single employer overseeing immigration, border patrol, the Coast Guard, emergency management, and transportation security.

Accredited, flexible online degree programs can prepare graduates for work in agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. University coursework can include training in terrorism tactics, handling of hazardous explosives and poisonous materials, emergency planning, and preventing cyber crime. Online Homeland Security coursework also enables working first responders such as police and fire personnel to continue training for increased responsibilities or employment with other law enforcement agencies.
