Online Architecture Programs
There are three basic elements to becoming an architect. You need to earn a professional degree in architecture, complete an apprenticeship, and pass the licensing exam. The study of architecture is highly regulated. You learn theory and history, as well as practical skills like computer-aided design techniques and safety regulations.
Online classes can provide flexibility if you have family or job obligations, although some accredited online programs do have minimum in-class requirements. Nevertheless, online classes can be an excellent match for practicing architects, or those in a related field. Many employers offer tuition reimbursement for interns and employees to continue their education.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts solid job opportunities with 18 percent growth through 2016, which is stronger than average. Most architects work in small architectural firms with others working in building construction firms or for government administrations. Twenty percent of architects are self-employed. Emerging interest in sustainability and "green" design continues to open up new opportunities.
