The costs of the various exams, training, and material may seem overwhelming at first, but when you look at the potential salaries earned by Oracle certified professionals, it balances out. Generally you also need a degree or substantial professional experience.

An Oracle database administrator (Oracle DBA) is responsible for overall database design, implementation, backup, recovery, and all aspects of project development. This requires communication and technical skills--and certification only covers the technical aspects. In addition to passing the Oracle Certification Professional (OCP) exam, you also need a degree in computer science, information systems, or an MBA or business administration degree to further your career. Four Oracle certifications are available--Oracle Certified Professional DBA, Oracle Internet Application Developer, Oracle Java Developer, and Internet Database Operator certification (this one qualifies you to support Oracle database administrators).
