Online Optometry Programs

In the field of optometry, doctors rely on trained professionals to fit patients with eye glasses, contact lenses, and other corrective devices. Dispensing opticians carry a different job description than optometrists, as patients come to them with a prescription already written from the medical professional. Optical dispensing still typically requires a strong level of technical knowledge, the ability to read medical charts and prescriptions, and the ability to reshape and adjust corrective devices to fit a patient's needs.

Some states require dispensing opticians to be fully licensed, and some employers prefer to hire opticians who have been through a formal training program. Career training generally comes in the form of certificate or associate degree programs.

Training to become an optician online can give you the technical training you need with the convenience of a distance learning format. You may even keep a part- or full-time career while you study online, avoiding the hassle of travel and hours spent in a traditional classroom.
